Rebecca is an internationally recognized playwright, actress, singer and experiential educator. The New York Times calls her work “richly rounded and eventually heartbreaking.” Ordained as a cantor, Rebecca now devotes herself full-time to touring and teaching. Her influences are wide and eclectic, ranging from playwright Tony Kushner to Hassidic master Rabbi Nachman to funny lady Fanny Brice and brilliant Knee High Theater Co. of Great Britain.
Highlights from Rebecca’s career include the hit off Broadway show Kleynkunst!, the bilingual show, Metropolis, which premiered to sold-out houses in Paris in 2012; Cities of Light, which has been invited around the world, including productions in Paris, Chicago, Evanston IL, and Jerusalem; and Ringing True, which premiered to box-office and critical acclaim at the Miami Theater Center in January 2016. The Miami Herald calls Ringing True “a mystical and intimate night of theater” and Rebecca’s performance “a tour de force.”
Rebecca has performed at such prestigious venues as Lincoln Center, , La Vieille Grille Theatre (Paris), Theater J (Washington DC), London Jewish Cultural Center, State Yiddish Theater (Warsaw), Metropolitan Room (NYC), American Jewish University (Los Angeles), Piven Theater (Chicago), Martef Theatre (Jerusalem), Chicago Dramatists, and Segal Centre (Montreal.) She has trained extensively in Michael Checkov technique (Lenord Petite; Dawn Arnold), in voice (Michael Warren studios), in Alexander technique, and in Meisner technique (Black Box, Chicago.) She holds a Master’s Degree in Sacred Music from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institue of Religion, where she was also ordained as a cantor. Rebecca is a proud member of the American Conference of Cantors, the Cantors’ Assembly, the Association for Jewish Theater, the Wexner Graduate Fellowship and ROI, an international network of social entrepreneurs. She has also be recognized for her performances with the award-winning cabaret troupe Kabarett Kollectif.
